Molds For Investment Casting
(Lost Wax Process)

At Sobacor we principally produce molds and tooling for the invvestment casting industry (also called the lost wax process).

The highlights of this process are described below.

First of all, the foundry have to produce a wax pattern of the desired part, from a mold generaly made of aluminium. This pattern will be covered by a kind of ceramic slury and then dry up until it becomes a hard but (fragile) shell. This shell (with the wax still into) will be put in an oven in order to melt the wax and results in a (empty) shell of the desired part.

Finally, the requested alloy will be poored in this ceramic mold. It only left to clean the casting from the ceramic by hammering it or with a sand blast.
